Computer science is a study of theoretical and and practical aspects of the designed and use of computers.
Computer is an electronic, programmable device that store, retrieve, and process data. If you look closely at the definition there are five elements that made up a computer:
- Electronic since it is powered by an electcity
- Programmable since a computer can follow sets of instructions or programs to operate.
- Storage since computer stores data and information which turns the computer into an electronic filing cabenit.
- Process since computer must be able to manipulate and transform the information it has stored.
What is data and information?
Data is a raw and unprocessed facts that as a potential to become a useful information. While information is a processed data. The data must be processed by the computer to transformed it to become a useful information.
Computer Basic Functions
- Input. The procedure of feeding data into a computer. The typical way of feeding or entering data to the computer is by using a keyboard.
- Process. The manipulation and transforming data into something useful by they users.
- Output. The result of processingfunction. Once the data is processed and become information, the computer presents that information in a form that the user can understand. There are two common forms of output – the information displayed in the monitor screen and the information printed on paper.
- Storage. Computers save data and information so that it can be retrieve when the user needs it.
